Carol Maher, MS. OTR/L

I was born and spent my early childhood in Ontario, Canada. After my family moved to Indiana, I finished secondary school and graduated from Hanover College with an art/art history degree. My husband, Christopher and I lived on a small farm with our two horses and lots of pets. When our two boys reached school age, I enrolled in the Masters of Occupational Therapy Program at the University of Indianapolis. I have been working as an OTR for about 18 yrs.

My OT experience includes Equine Assisted Occupational Therapy (Hippotherapy); Aquatic Therapy, Early Intervention Home Based Services; Riley Hospital for Children acute care, outpatient chronic care, and hand rehabilitation; and, Great Aspirations, a Pediatric Therapy Clinic I owned and operated.  I use art in my approach to working with kids.  I enjoy motivating kids with activities that incorporate building and creating while learning something new.

In 2016 my husband and I decided it was time for a new adventure.  We chose North Carolina so we could be closer to the spectacular mountains, lakes, and, outdoor activities.  We are both very active and love hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, biking, and exploring.

I am a Certified Occupational Therapist licensed in both Indiana and North Carolina.  Being part of the therapy team at Higher Ground, and making a difference with the families I work with has been very rewarding.
